Chicken Chat with Cynthia Capers
Tuesday Mar 08, 2022
Tuesday Mar 08, 2022
Special Guest Cynthia Capers of Heniscity Farm (https://www.heniscityfarm.org/) near Nashville joins Jeannette Beranger and Brittany Sweeney to chat about running a small poultry business.
Cynthia is a retired trauma nurse and pharmaceutical biotech clinical researcher and sorority member of Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc. She is also the founder/owner of Heniscity Farms in Pegram, TN. Bonding to kindred spirits lost over time, Heniscity Farm was created to extend across that ancestral journey to Mother Earth unifying cultural gaps to the land, reducing hunger along the way.
National Poultry Improvement Program (NPIP) certified, Heniscity Farm, specializes in heritage breeds and domestic free-range poultry locally grown. From the big city of Chicago to now a small-town feathered fowl aficionado, Cynthia has over 20 years’ experience with poultry, creating custom blended feed for her diverse flock. In addition, she is an avid gardener raising vegetables and herbs using a straw bale system.
A graduate of TSU’s New Farmers Academy, Cynthia is also a member of American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA), Livestock Conservancy, a licensed egg grader and industrial hemp grower. Though new to farming, she is considered the local poultry expert in the Nashville TN area and believes heritage poultry must be on the agricultural radar as entry level livestock.
