Special Guests Claus Kropp and Peter Herold join Jeannette Beranger and Brittany Sweeney to chat about draft animals, including oxen and horses, in Germany. Learn more about the group at
Claus Kropp is manager of the Lauresham Laboratory for Experimental Archaeology and currently also President for the International Association of Agricultural Museums (AIMA). Both during his full-time museum position as well as on his private farming operation, Claus is working with draft cattle. He joined the German Oxdriver Working Group in 2012 and organized the first World Congress on Draft Animals (Draft Animals in the Past, Present and Future) in 2021.
Dr. Peter Herold, Ph.D., together with his family drives a small organic farm with milking goats, a cheese dairy, some laying hens and two (sometimes draught-) horses near Heilbronn, Germany. He studied Nature Conservation Biology and some Organic Farming at Marburg and Gießen Universities in the 1990s and continued with a PhD-thesis on the potential of modern draught horse use in organic farming at Kassel University. From 2005 - 2012 he was the secretary of the German Draught Horse Association (
