Winter Management Sheep Chat with Melinda Ellison

February 23, 2022
Special Guest Melinda Ellison, assistant professor of range livestock and sheep extension specialist at the University of Idaho, chats with Brittany about lambing and sheep winter management strategies.
Melinda grew up on a beef cattle ranch in Colorado and has been raising sheep for about a decade. She currently raises a small flock of 30 ewes, where she finishes lambs and sells direct-to-consumer near Salmon, Idaho. Over the years, Melinda has been crossbreeding using a Suffolk baseline, but is moving into a composite meat breed developed at the U.S. Sheep Experiment Station, which is made up of Suffolk, Columbia, and Texel breeds.
